As a native of Springfield, my roots run deep in this community. I graduated from Springfield High School in 1991, and then attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville for four years where I majored in Biology. In 1999, I completed my education earning the Doctor of Optometry degree from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. I have lived and worked as a full time optometrist in my beloved Springfield since that time.
In 2006, my family and I joined Springfield First United Methodist Church. Being a member of this wonderful church has been a joy in my life. I have especially enjoyed playing the trumpet for our traditional worship service, teaching the New Horizons Sunday school class, and taking part in international mission trips to Guatemala and Honduras. At the age of 42, I answered God’s call upon my life to enter into the ministry. I just completed the process of becoming a part-time licensed local pastor within the United Methodist Church and was named Associate Pastor for Springfield First UMC in June 2017.
Prior to becoming Associate Pastor, I served as Director of Outreach. My responsibilities include: working with the S.A.L.T.ministry (Senior Adults Living Triumphantly), evangelism and outreach ministries (such as Faith in Action and international missions), welcome and announcements during Sunday morning services, assisting the pastor with communion, visitation, and preaching on occasion.
I am married to my best friend and childhood sweetheart, Jenny Wilkerson. God has blessed our lives with three amazing children: Jack, Kate and Abby. Some of my greatest joys in life are being a follower of Jesus, a husband and father, and a servant to others. In my personal life, I enjoy spending time with my family, hunting, fishing, camping, traveling, and cooking.
